BIS Hallmarking
Trust Is Our Highest Promise
At Somana, authenticity is never assumed—it is assured. Every gold creation bears the BIS hallmark, a testament to its purity. Our jewellery can be crafted in yellow, white, and rose gold, in 14K and 18K variants, thoughtfully curated to reflect your personal style.
What Does the BIS Hallmark Signify?
Issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), India’s official quality authority, the BIS hallmark certifies that the gold used in your jewellery meets government-defined benchmarks for fineness and purity.
It serves as a clear assurance that your jewellery is genuine, tested, and accurately valued.
Identifying BIS Hallmarked Jewellery
Each hallmarked piece carries 3 key marks that confirm its authenticity:
- BIS Certification Mark indicates that the jewellery has been tested and certified at a BIS-authorised Assaying and Hallmarking Centre.
- Gold Purity Mark specifies the proportion of gold used. Pure gold is naturally soft and is therefore alloyed with other metals for durability. Higher carat gold offers greater purity, while lower carats provide enhanced strength—allowing you to choose what best suits your lifestyle and wear preferences.
| 24K999 | 24 parts out of 24 or 99.9% pure gold |
| 22K916 | 22 parts out of 24 or 91.6% pure gold |
| 18K750 | 18 parts out of 24 or 75.0% pure gold |
| 14K585 | 14 parts out of 24 or 58.5% pure gold |
- HUID (Hallmark Unique Identification Number) is a unique alphanumeric code assigned to individual jewellery pieces. It serves as a permanent record, enabling traceability and independent verification.
